Rolls Royce And General Dynamics Wins Contract Worth Total £390 Million At DSEi 2013

The British defence procurement minister Philip Dunne announced two orders worth about £390 million on the second day of DSEi 2013 show.

The first order is worth £367 million deal for a six-year term won by Rolls Royce Turbomeca to support the RTM322 engine to power British Army’s Apache attack helicopter and Merlin machines used by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.

Dunne also announced a further £23 million order for 24 Foxhound protected patrol vehicles from General Dynamics, making it 400 total vehicles ordered with 350 of the 376 vehicles has been delivered earlier.

Also a plan to create a ceramic armor development center in Newport, South Wales, involving the MoD’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory and Kennametal Manufacturing was announced.

The joint funding of a £2 million specialized manufacturing center will enable the partners to develop full-size ceramic armor components for personnel and vehicle protection in sufficient quantity to enable full-scale impact tests.
