Cubic Wins $25 Million P5 Combat Training System Contract

Cubic Defense Systems has won a contract worth $25 million to supply P5 combat training system (P5CTS) to the US Air Force (USAF).

The system is expected to help USAF address international requirements, including delivery to several Middle East allies as part of F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft foreign military sales (FMS) contracts.

Cubic Defense Systems president Dave Schmitz said the contract combines various FMS requirements to provide the lowest possible cost to the customers in a tight budgetary environment.

''This contract extends the breadth of P5 sales in the Middle East and should yield long-term operations and maintenance opportunities,'' Schmitz said.

As prime contractor, Cubic will be responsible for performance in all areas of systems engineering, and for development, integration and installation of the ground instrumentation subsystem.

DRS has been selected as the principal subcontractor, and will work on all areas related to the P5CTS airborne instrumentation subsystem.

Jointly developed by Cubic Defense Applications and DRS Technologies, the P5 combat trainer is designed to provide real-time training for air-to-air, air-to-ground and surface-to-air combat missions by recording mission data, relay time, space and positioning information between participating aircraft during training sorties.

Key components of the fifth-generation system include GPS-enabled aircraft-mounted airborne instrumentation packages and ground stations, which will help aircrew to conduct, monitor and control air combat training and post-flight debriefing as well as the flexibility to carry out, anywhere, anytime training capability.
