Turkey First Indigenous Helicopter Engine to be Ready for Integration This Year

Turkey’s Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank announced June 20 that the TS1400 engine will be delivered in 2020 for integration into the T-625 Gökbey Utility Helicopter.

Mustafa Varank also said that “Core of the T-625 helicopter’s engine was tested at TAI,”

The TAI T625 Gökbey is a twin-engine light transport/utility helicopter developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries.

The TS1400 engine, will power the T-625 Gökbey utility helicopter as well as the T129 ATAK combat helicopter. First integration is marked for theT-625 but details of the integration into the T129 are not yet known.

In September 2018, T-625 rotorcraft powered by two CTS-800-4A turboshaft engines made its maiden flight at Ankara. The T625 is expected to weigh 5 tonnes and is in the interim powered by two LHTEC CTS800 engines.

A modified engine TS1400 will power T129 ATAK Helicopter, The T129 ATAK gunship, built by TAI under license from the Italian-British company AgustaWestland, also uses the CTS-800-4A engine.
