Exelis announced Monday that it has won an US Air Force $6.3 million contract to provide AN/PLM-4 Radar Signal Simulators (RSS) to test radar warning receivers on various aircraft.

The contract was a task order from a previously awarded indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract awarded to Exelis in July 2012.

The RSS is a portable radar simulator that tests radar warning receivers, electronic surveillance measures and electronic countermeasures systems. The system tests the detection and identification capabilities of fixed and rotary wing aircraft, surface ships, submarines and land vehicles against the latest hostile threats.

Testing can be conducted on pods, on-board self-protection electronic countermeasures systems, radar warning receiver systems and electronic warfare support measures systems. The self-contained unit is small in size, operates by battery or external AC power and can be carried and operated easily by a single person,

Jennifer Schoonover, vice president of the Exelis Communications Solutions business area said, "This unique capability allows airmen to confidently enter harm's way knowing their electronic warfare systems will detect current and emerging enemy threats in the battle space."
