Indo-Pak border bonhomie nose-dived as Pakistani Rangers refused sweets offered by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to mark the Indian Republic Day on Monday.

“The refusal to accept the sweets is aimed at making it clear that Pakistan Rangers are unhappy with the indiscriminate firing and shelling the BSF has been resorting to along the border,” according to the sources quoted by the Dawn newspaper.

This is the first time that sweets offered by the BSF have been refused, according to the report. Indian and Pakistani guards stage an elaborate changing of the guards’ ceremony every evening at the Wagah border crossing that is viewed by scores of people from either side.

Indian media reports have accused Pakistan of “indiscriminate shelling” in the recent days along the Line of control or the unofficial border between the two countries.
