India has sent a “feeler” to Japan eliciting its interest to participate in the Project 75i submarine bid to build six vessels with air independent propulsion in India.

The RFP for this is expected to go out soon but already several Indian shipyards have started hunting for foreign partners to provide technology and expertise.

The Times of India reported today quoting sources that Delhi has forwarded "a proposal" to Tokyo to "consider the possibility" of making its latest diesel-electric Soryu-class submarines in India.

The proposal may be welcomed in Tokyo which is keen to enter the global defence market. It recently courted the UK and Australia to bid for their submarine projects.
