Czech Military To Purchase Helicopters, Vehicles, Radar
The Czech Ministry of Defense will be launching tenders worth $425 million this year to acquire new helicopters, armored vehicles and radars.
"We are primarily driven by ensuring high quality-price ratios, and only after this by the aspect of national [defense production]," Czech Defense Minister Martin Stropnicky was quoted as saying by DefenseNews.
The three acquisitions will be part of the ministry's plan to modernize the Czech Republic's armed forces and replace Soviet-designed gear with new weapons and equipment supplied by manufacturers based in NATO member states, according to the report.
The 18 helicopters are expected to cost about $202 million, the 92 armored vehicles about $80.9 million, and the 10 radars a further $141 million, the report added. The new radars will replace equipment the country's military has used since 1984.
