ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has offered Type 209/1400mod and Type 210mod platform submarines to Thailand, IHS Jane's reported last Thursday.

TKMS highlighted that the two subs meet Thailand’s requirements based on a continuing review of submarine platforms for Royal Thai Navy; IHS quoted unknown sources as saying.

The evaluation program also featured Russian Kilo-class Project 636 submarine and China’s Yuan-class platform. The navy is eyeing to procure up to three submarines in the coming few years. Furthermore, TKMS will evaluate South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's Chang Bogo-class (Type 209) submarine, as per the report.

Thai Defense Minister, Prawit Wongsuwon has already agreed to approve the purchase on the condition that detailed procurement plans are submitted in the current fiscal year ending in October.
