Raytheon has won a $15 million contract from the US Navy to provide an open system application-based architecture (ABA) to fleet of P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft.
Under this contract, Raytheon will deliver two prototype ABA systems featuring software-based mission applications and services-oriented architecture and airborne Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) computing capabilities.
"The goal is to use readily available technology to quickly upgrade the P-8A's warfighting capability," Jerry Powlen, Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems' vice president of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems said.
"This open systems architecture can easily be used for other domestic and international customers looking to affordably enhance their airborne platforms", added Powlen.
