China's new H-6K bomber variant equipped with KD-20 cruise missiles is capable of attacking all military targets in the Asia-Pacific.

According to am American expert Richard Fisher, President Xi Jinping's visit on Feb 17 to the bomber unit in Xi'an may trigger the development of the country's next-generation strategic bomber.

Fisher noticed significant modifications to the H-6K, the latest version of the bomber and could possibly target all the US military facilities from Northeast Asia to Guam.

The photo published by official state media gives an inside view of the H-6K cockpit, the expert told London-based Jane's Defence Review.

The H-6K uses a glass cockpit with five or more multifunction displays. Also, it is the first variant of the H-6 bomber to use ejection seats for all three to four crew members, Fisher said.

The H-6K bombers are currently in service with at least two People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force bomber regiments. The plane can be equipped with six KD-20 cruise missiles and has a combat radius of 3,500 kilometers.

With the Russian-built D-30-KP2 engines as the H-6K's primary source of power, the speed and range of H-6K bombers have been gradually upgraded, according to Global Times.
