Iran has planned to manufacture remote controlled robots capable of carrying machine guns and missiles, Commander of Iranian Army Ground Force (IAGF), Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters in Tehran on Monday.

He also annouced that IAGF has managed to design a 23-mm sniper rifle and will unveil it on Army Day in the coming month.

In August 2014, the Army Ground Force furnished its units with 4 new weapons manufactured by the country's military industries. The weapons included 155 mm “Hoveizeh” cannon, a 14.5 mm caliber sniper rifle, dubbed “Shaher”, a modified 23 mm cannon, and the MS4B angle finder which is utilized for firing the 81 mm and 120 mm mortars and 107 mm rocket launchers.

The 23 mm cannon, which have been optimized under a project known as “Sedad”, are mounted on the BTR-82 personnel carriers. The Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
