The first official video of Ukraine’s Long Neptune cruise missile has been published, revealing a larger design and extended range of up to 1,000 kilometers.
The footage, released by Ukrainian defense industry portal Zbroya.ua, shows the missile in full size, enabling comparisons with the earlier R-360 Neptune anti-ship missile. The most visible change is its increased diameter and length, linked to additional fuel capacity and a larger warhead.
According to previous reports, a representative of Ukraine’s defense ministry confirmed in August 2023 that the Long Neptune can be launched from the same system as the standard Neptune missile. The official, speaking to The War Zone, also highlighted upgrades including a satellite positioning system for mid-course navigation and an infrared homing system for terminal guidance.
The missile’s nose section has been redesigned, likely due to the enlarged warhead and updated guidance suite. Control surfaces were also expanded, giving the weapon improved maneuverability despite its added weight.
In March 2025, Ukraine confirmed the missile had successfully undergone testing and had been used in combat with precision strikes. The increase in range to 1,000 km marks a significant expansion of Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities.
