HAL Selects Honeywell’s Turboprop Engine For Its Military Training Aircraft

India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited announced Thursday that it has selected Honeywell Aerospace to provide the engine for its prototype HTT-40 military training aircraft.

Honeywell’s TPE331-12B turboprop engine will enable Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to simulate a wide range of aircraft types with its new aircraft and demonstrate the platform’s ability to deliver improved fuel efficiency, greater reliability and increased performance compared with previous training aircraft.

Arijit Ghosh, president, Honeywell Aerospace India said “With our engine at its core, HAL’s new, locally developed HTT-40 will offer pilots rapid acceleration, low fuel consumption, improved reliability and the ability to train for a wide range of missions.” 

Honeywell has delivered more than 13,000 TPE331 engines for both military and civil applications worldwide, with the engine family completing more than 122 million flight hours to date.

The TPE331 is recognized for its ability to enable short takeoff and rapid climb and cruise, while at the same time offering very low fuel consumption.
