Russia launched a defense satellite by a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket from the Plesetsk spaceport Tuesday.

"The space craft has been put into the designated orbit. The satellite separated in a routine mode," Dmitry Zenin, a spokesman for the Russian space defense forces was quoted as saying by Tass.

It is the first Soyuz -2.1b rocket launched this year and a second military launch this month.

The Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with military satellite onboard took off from Plesetsk on June 5 for the first time since a Progress M-27M cargo spaceship accident in April.
