US Approves $100 million Border Security Surveillance System To Egypt

The US State Department has approved a sale of a $100 million Border Security Mobile Surveillance Sensor Security System to Egypt.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced Wednesday that it delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on July 7, 2015.

The Government of Egypt has requested a possible sale for procurement and construction of one commercial off-the-shelf border security mobile surveillance sensor security system that will include sub-systems.

The subsystems included are mobile surveillance sensor towers, mobile command and control (C2) systems, a regional C2 system, voice/data communications equipment as well as logistics and program support.

This mobile surveillance sensor security system will provide Egypt with advanced capabilities intended to bolster its border surveillance capabilities along its border with Libya and elsewhere.

This procurement is intended for Egyptian Border Guard Forces, which currently lack any remote detection capability along unpatrolled areas of Egypt’s borders.

This system would provide an early warning capability to allow for faster response times to mitigate threats to the border guards and the civilian population. Egypt should have no difficulty absorbing these systems into its armed forces.
