India To Become Member Of Missile Technology Control Regime

India is likely to become a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) that would enable the nation to get close to technology control regimes.

The move is supported by the US which has indicated it would to share sensitive technologies such as armed drone with India if the former signs up for the MTCR.

Further, the US has confirmed its support for India's membership in the Missile Technology Control Regime, the Nuclear Suppliers Group, and in the other global non-proliferation export control regimes, according to a joint statement issued Tuesday at the conclusion of the India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue at the State Department.

India had formally applied earlier this year for the membership of MTCR, which is a club of 34 countries that regulates trade in missile and space technology.

 Building on the conclusion of their 10-year Defence Framework Agreement, both nations expressed satisfaction with progress on Defence Technology and Trade Initiative pathfinder projects, including the establishment of the Working Groups on Aircraft Carrier Technology and Jet Engine, and the growing cooperation between US and Indian defence industries through the 'Make in India' initiative.
