The US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has awarded Northrop Grumman a $100 million contract for a secure encryption program to process classified messaging traffic.

“Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation has been awarded a maximum $99,900,00 contract for Programmable Inline Encryption Devices (PIEDs) to process classified messaging traffic via the Joint Battle Command-Platform (JBC-P) program,” the Defense Department said yesterday.

The five-year contract is scheduled to be completed on November 15, 2020, the announcement added.

The contract is a part of the Pentagon’s overall focus on the networked battlefield. The US Defense Department is investing in next generation encryption systems to keep ahead of perceived technological advances in the field by China and other nations.
