Spain’s decision to restructure the delivery of 27 Airbus A400M military transport aircraft has been welcomed by Airbus Defense and Space.

Spain intends to postpone delivery of 13 A400M military transport aircraft beyond 2024 out of the 27 it ordered. The 14 aircraft will be delivered by 2022 after which a decision will be made on how to proceed with the remaining aircraft.

Airbus Defense and Space in an email statement to defenseworld.net Friday said, “It welcomes the agreement with Spain to restructure the delivery schedule of its A400M fleet in line with the country's evolving defense requirements and budgets.”

“This agreement brings clarity to the A400M production schedule into the next decade and ensures that the transformation of Spain's air mobility fleet through the introduction of the A400M is conducted in a measured and sustainable way,” The statement said.

The Spanish Air Force has earlier stated that it plans to acquire three Airbus A330 multi role tanker transport (MRTT) and Airbus C295 transport aircraft but it does not have the budget currently to make the purchase.
