Anonymous Hacker group has claimed responsibility for cyberattack on Japan’s Metropolitan Police Department’s website late Wednesday.

According to a report by Japan Times news daily Thursday, the police said that the website could not be accessed between 7 and 9.30 pm on Wednesday. The problem was caused by transmission of a massive amount of data beyond the site’s server capacity.

Other than the MPD’s website, the official websites of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and Chubu Centrair International airport in Nagoya were also shut down briefly on Wednesday, possibly also related to cyberattacks carried out by the Hacker group as it also involved high volumes of data being transmitted.

Apart from these, the websites of Narita International Airport became unstable on Tuesday midnight and Health ministry website from Monday.

A message posted on a Twitter account claiming to be related to Anonymous hinted it may have been involved in the week long cyberattacks.
