An unnamed North African country has ordered 50 MiG-29M/M2s from Russia and will receive its first two fighter jets later this year.

RAC MiG Deputy General Alexey Beskibalov was quoted as sayingby Ria Novosti that the deliveries are scheduled to complete by 2020. The payment for the jets has been made to Russia, he added.

The order is likely from Egypt as it had expressed interest in MiG-29 fighters, Mi-35 attack helicopters and other hardware in 2014.  Egypt had agreed to buy 46 MiG-29s for US $2 billion.

Egypt is likely to replace its aging fleet of MiG-21s and Chinese J-7s with MiG-29s.
