Kockums Marine Maintenance & Support Department is determined to market Kockums as a shipyard with the leading-edge competence that the commercial shipping industry seeks in several areas. During the year, Kockums has taken in a number of commercial vessels for maintenance and repair, both at the Musk facility and in Karlskrona.>> Kockums has carried out marine accident repairs and classification assignments at its Musk facility for Prima Shipping, for example. In Karlskrona, we have repaired vessels from Amisco Lines and Trans Atlantic. We have also carried out several assignments for Stena Lines Stena Nordica, Stena Baltica and Finnarow, at the quayside at Verk in Karlskrona, as well as on-site in Gdynia, states Jrgen Olsson, Marine Maintenance & Support.>> The immediate future is likely to mainly involve the maintenance and repair of the ships and submarines of our principal customer, the Royal Swedish Navy, via the Swedish Defence Materil Administration (FMV), because the maintenance cycles of these vessels are concentrated to the winter months. The somewhat uneven nature of this workload demands meticulous planning, which presents opportunities for utilising free capacity by accepting other types of business, such as commercial marine maintenance.>> During the autumn, Kockums will consequently invest in additional marketing of its commercial maintenance capacity. As well as promoting traditional shipyard capacity, Kockums will also promote its Flying Squads rapid-reaction teams that can be despatched to carry out on-site maintenance, wherever the customers ship may be. This is a highly sought-after concept.
