Mexican Navy Christens New Logistic Support Ship

The Mexican navy christened its latest logistic support ship, ARM Isla Maria Madre, during a ceremony on May 27.

The ceremony took place at the Port of Guaymas in Sonora.The ship will be used to transport inmates, families and staff to the Islas Marias Federal Prison in the Islas Marias archipelago, UNI reported citing Mexican navy statement Wednesday

It also has the capability to transport supplies and materials needed in the littoral Mexican Pacific, the navy said. The ship is about 175 feet long and 33 feet wide and holds a crew of 17. It has a maximum speed of 22 knots.
