The Indian MoD has issued a request for information (RFI) for the procurement of a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for use by three defence services.

The procurement will be under the make-in-Indian initiative from Indian companies. The UAVs are proposed to be developed and manufactured by the Indian industry under an appropriate category of the DPP like Buy & Make (Indian).

The project would be based on proven or matured technologies where fundamental research is not required. The development and manufacture of the equipment could also be undertaken by Indian Industry  Consortia, a statement on the Indian MOD’s tender portal said.

Considering that the MALE drone will be for the three services, it is possible that its requirement would be both reconnaissance and attack.
