Russian UEC Showcased Aircraft Engine For MC-21 During Farnborough Airshow
PD-14 scale model

Russian United Engine Corporation (UEC) demonstrated its PD-14 1:3 scale engine dummy at the Farnborough International Airshow 2016.

“Work on this power unit for the new MC-21-300 domestic airplane is performed via wide-ranging cooperation of the plants belonging to United Engine Corporation. Around 35% of the parts and hardware are produced by the Ufa engine-building production association (UMPO),” the manufacturer's press office reports said last week.

UMPO explained that during the development of the engine, linear friction welding, casting of titanium intermetallide parts, oversized thin-walled casting, and the technology of hollow wide chord fan blades are applied.

One of the priorities for UMPO is participation in the project to build engines for the MS-21 civil airliner.

United Engine Corporation is an integrated structure that produces engines for military and civil aviation, space programs, plants of varying capacity for electric and thermal power generation, gas pumping and ship gas turbine units. In all, over 70,000 people work at UEC.
