Belarus Receives High-Altitude Radar From Russia
Protivnik-GE radar

Russian-made Protivnik-GE radar has entered in service with Belarusian air defense branch.

"The Protivnik-GE medium/high-altitude radar has been fielded with an air defense unit of the Belarusian Armed Forces," the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced this week.

Now, they can acquire and track ballistic targets, and extend the aerial target acquisition range, increase the mobility of an automated task force and slash the radar’s operating costs because of the up-to-date technologies embodied in it, the ministry added.

The delivery of the radar is a milestone for the AD radar forces, signifying the latter’s transition "to a radically higher level of upholding national defense, which boosts the radar forces’ combat capabilities and mobility." Major General Oleg Belokonev First deputy defense minister said.

One more radar of the type would be fielded early next year as Belarus will be receiving a total of seven Protivnik-GE radars by 2020.

The Protivnik-GE mobile 3D radar is designed to acquire and track strategic and tactical planes, air-launched and ballistic missiles and small low-speed aircraft in electronic countermeasures-heavy environment and feed the resultant data to the automation systems of command posts.

The system’s few vehicles and automated antenna mast extension system allow quick deployment in an austere position and displacement in slightly more than 30 min.
