Boeing has been awarded $81 million contract by US States department to provide all-weather, over-the-horizon, Harpoon anti-ship missiles to India.

The missiles are expected to be ready in June 2018. The Harpoons are intended for India's Boeing P8I Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft.

The contract is modification to a previously awarded one to exercise an option for the procurement of 22 Lot 89 Harpoon missiles, associated containers and components for India.

The missiles will be manufactured at several places in the United States, and some manufacturing process would also be done in the United Kingdom.

Harpoon Block II is an over-the-horizon, anti-ship missile manufactured by Boeing Defence, Space & Security.

The all-weather missile can engage a wide variety of land-based targets, including coastal defence sites, surface-to-air missile sites, aircraft, port or industrial facilities, and naval ships anchored in ports.
