Mexican Navy Launches Coastal Patrol Vessel
Mexican Navy has launched a new coastal patrol vessel (CPV), ARM Bonampak (PC 339), at Naval Shipyard N1 (ASTIMAR N1) last week.
The vessel, based on the Damen Stan Patrol 4207 series, is known as the Tenochtitlan class in Mexico. It is the ninth of the type to be built by the SEMAR since 2012 and is part of a planned total of 20 such ships to be produced in the 2013-18 timeframe, IHS Jane's reported Wednesday.
According to the SEMAR (Naval Secretariat), Bonampak's missions are to include surveillance, dissuasion, search-and-rescue, and interdiction operations.
“Since 2013 the SEMAR has produced a total 11 new vessels as part of its programme for replacing surface units, while another 10 vessels were built for state-run petroleum company PEMEX as part of a joint agreement.” Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberón Sanz, secretary of navy, who presided the launching ceremony said.
