Raytheon has unveiled a new bridge system for safe ship navigation with a new Synapsis ECDIS with a completely redesigned user interface.

ECDIS NX has various display functions that product manager Björn Schröder said makes this a “uniquely powerful tool” for seafarers. The interface was designed to display key navigation information without overloading the display or overwhelming the user, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The intuitive user interface includes a structured display, consistent operational concepts and modern interaction patterns such as a touch operation. It has drag-and-drop function, pins and handles, and context-sensitive help dialogue.

ECDIS NX can be linked with other bridge instruments in the Synapsis Integrated Navigation System. The integrated functions of Synapsis, such as alert management or sensor integrity monitoring, are also available for this stand-alone ECDIS.

Raytheon said ECDIS NX complies with International Electrotechnical Commission and International Hydrographic Organization standards, including the S-52 presentation library. Raytheon combined feedback from various user groups to design the user interface of ECDIS NX.
