India's Bharat Dynamics To Develop Data Field Loader System For Rocket, Missile Systems

India’s Bharat Dynamics (BDL) is planning to design and develop an Advanced Data Field Loader system, which is beneficial in uploading and downloading mission and navigation data for rockets and missiles.

The defense public sector would be taking up the project as part of its efforts to improve self-reliance in the current financial year, The Hindu Business Line reported Thursday.

The data field loader (DFL)  also helps in planning, execution and maintenance of various systems on board.

Pinaka Aerospace Solutions Pvt. Ltd has developed a DFL. Pinaka is a multi-barrel rocket developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Army. It has the capability to launch rockets and target enemy targets upto 70 km away.

The Hyderabad-based BDL has set a target to achieve revenues of Rs. 5,300 crore (US$822.7 million) during the current fiscal, a 20 per cent growth over the Rs. 4,800 crore (US$745.1 million) it managed last year.

The ‘mini-ratna’ defence public sector undertaking has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Defence for the fiscal 2017-18. It was swigned by V. Udaya Bhaskar, CMD, BDL, and Ashok Kumar Gupta, Secretary (Defence Production), in the national Capital recently.

The agreement, which is an annual affair, emphasizes targets and various performance parameters for BtDL for the fiscal underway.

As part of its green energy initiative, BDL has planned to set up a 5 MW solar plant at its upcoming unit at Ibrahimpatnam in Telangana State.

The PSU, which is the main producer of all indigenously developed missiles such as the Prithvi, Akash, Agni and Nag, has launched two new production units to increase its capacities at Ibrahimpatnam (Telangana) and Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), with an estimated investment of around Rs. 1,700 crore.

The company wants to increase its focus on research and development in the pursuit of self-reliance.
