Boeing has won a $17 million USAF modification contract for sustaining engineering and program management support for the intercontinental ballistic missile guidance subsystem.

The contract modification is for engineering and manufacturing development and production of a Pendulous Integrating Gyroscopic Accelerometer (PIGA), the US department of defense said in a statement Thursday.

Work will be performed in Layton, Utah, and is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2020.

A PIGA is a type of accelerometer that can measure acceleration and simultaneously integrates this acceleration against time to produce a speed measure as well. The PIGA's main use is in Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) for guidance of aircraft and most particularly for ballistic missile guidance.
