Russian MiG-31BM fighter aircraft attached to the Western Military District intercepted cruise missiles launched by a mock enemy’s airplanes in course of the Zapad 2017 strategic exercise this week.
Pair of standby fighters scrambled from airfield was alerted by air defence units, the Russian defense ministry announced in a press release.
During the tactical episode, the pilots detected cruise missiles launched by a mock enemy’s airplanes, and eliminated them by air-to-air missiles.
Earlier the MiG-31BM fighters were involved in repelling a mock air attack, intercepting more than 30 aircraft that were approaching the boarders of air defence area of responsibility.
