Raytheon Awarded $260M for Supply of 196 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles for US Navy, UK

Raytheon is being awarded $260 million modification contract for procurement of 196 Tomahawk Block IV all-up-round vertical launch system missiles and spares in support of the US Navy and United Kingdom. 

In addition, this modification provides for the procurement of spare parts and support for the government of the United Kingdom. Work is expected to be completed in August 2019, the US Department of Defense said in a statement Friday.

This contract combines purchases for the Navy and the government of the United Kingdom under the Foreign Military Sales program.

Tomahawk can be launched from a ship or submarine and can fly into heavily defended airspace more than 1,000 miles away to conduct precise strikes on high-value targets. The latest variant (Tomahawk Block IV) includes a two-way satellite data-link that enables the missile to be retargeted in flight to preprogrammed, alternate targets. The Block IV design was initiated as both a cost savings and a capability improvement effort.

In April 2017, US Navy destroyers launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at targets on a Syrian air base. In 2014, a US Navy destroyer and a guided missile cruiser launched 47 Tomahawk missiles in a strike on the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria.
