US Army Stations Gray Eagle Attack Drones in South Korea
The US military has created a MQ-C Gray Eagle drone unit as part of efforts to enance warfighting capability in South Korea.
The Second Infantry Division plans to put the advanced unmanned aircraft system into full operation in April next year, with its first flight slated for this spring, US Forces Korea (USFK) said Wednesday in a statement, Yonhap reports.
The General Atomics MQ-1C Gray Eagle is an unmanned aircraft system developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems for the US Army. The Gray Eagle, which has an 18-yard wingspan, can conduct various missions including attack, reconnaissance, surveillance and infiltration. Its 248-mile range gives it enough reach to cover most of North Korean territory.
"It's not an attach drone," said the USFK. "We aren't identifying the number of platforms at this time". The drone company was launched earlier in the day.
