L3 Tech, Optics 1 to Compete for US Army’s $236M STORM Micro-laser Range Finder Contract

L3 Technologies and Optics 1 will compete for each order of the $236 million contract for the Small Tactical Optical Rifle Mounted Micro-Laser Range Finder.

Bids were solicited via the Internet with two received. Work is expected to be completed by June 20, 2025, US department of defense said in a statement Thursday.

L3’s STORM-SLX Laser Rangefinder incorporates an erbium glass laser for reduced Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP). The system also incorporates NIR and visible aim lasers, a NIR illumination laser with adjustable divergence, a high-accuracy DMC, and an external GPS interface, providing the same features and functions as the current STORM-PI in a smaller, lighter, extended performance (SLX) package, according to the company’s website.
