The Israeli army has claimed to have shot a Syrian Sukhoi jet after it infiltrated its air space over the occupied Golan Heights.
“Two Patriot missiles were launched at a Syrian Sukhoi fighter jet that infiltrated about 1 mile into Israeli airspace. The IDF monitored the fighter jet, which was then intercepted by the Patriot missiles,” the Israeli Air Force said in a statement Tuesday.
"The Israeli enemy confirms its support for the armed terrorist groups and targets one of our warplanes, which was striking their groups in the area of Saida on the edge of the Yarmouk Valley in Syrian air space," Syrian news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying.
Syrian state media said the plane was targeted while conducting raids in the Syrian air space in southern Syria.
The IDF last week twice intercepted UAVs used by the Syrian army using Patriot missiles.
