The US Army has ordered production of 155-millimeter self-propelled howitzer artillery vehicles as well as ammunition carrier tracked armored combat vehicles under a contract worth over $215 million.

The Department of defense announced the contract on Friday, under which BAE Systems will produce M109A7 Self-Propelled Howitzer and the M992A3 Carrier Ammunition Tracked vehicles.

“BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P., York, Pennsylvania, was awarded a $215,797,886 modification (P00011) to contract W56HZV-17-C-0001 for production of the M109A7 Self-Propelled Howitzer and the M992A3 Carrier Ammunition Tracked vehicles,” the DOD release said.

The M109A7 is the Army's newest M109 version. Formerly known as the M109A6 Paladin Integrated Management (PIM), the M109A7 uses the existing main armament and cab structure of a Paladin M109A6 self-propelled cannon, and replaces the vehicle’s chassis components with modem components common to the M2A3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

On this contract modification, BAE Systems will do the work in York, Pennsylvania, with an estimated completion date of Jan. 29, 2021.
