BAE Systems has won a $148.8 million contract in support of the latest Self-Propelled Howitzer and the latest version of the Field Artillery Ammunition Supply Vehicle for the US Army.

The deal enables BAE Systems for early procurement material to support production of the M109A7 and M992A3 vehicles, US department of defense said in a statement Wednesday.

Work is expected to be completed by November 2022. The full amount of the contract has been obligated to BAE Systems at the time of award from Army Fiscal 2018 other procurement funds.

The US Army had awarded a contract in December last year that includes an initial $413.7 million award to execute the third and final option for low-rate initial production of M109A7 Self-Propelled Howitzer and M992A3 ammunition carrier vehicles.

The M109A7 consists of a new chassis design for improved performance, upgraded survivability, and components common to other Army vehicles, as well as additional key features.

The M109A7 also leverages technologies from previous design programs, such as a 600-volt on-board power generation, distribution, and management system, coupled with a high-voltage electric gun drive and projectile ramming systems.
