Lockheed Martin Wins $631M to Supply Hellfire II Missile Variants to Netherlands, Japan

Lockheed Martin was awarded a $631.7 million contract to procure a variety of Hellfire II missile variants in containers for Netherlands and Japan.

Work is expected to be complete by Sept. 30, 2021, the United States department of defense said in a statement Monday.

The AGM-114 Hellfire is an air-to-surface missile (ASM) first developed for anti-armor use, but later models were developed for precision strikes against other target types, and have been used in a number of targeted killings of high-profile individuals.

The Hellfire II is a version of AGM-114F with lighter components, shorter airframe, and increased range. It is capable of targeting all armored threats with a range of 8000 meters. It uses Semi-active laser homing with electro-optical countermeasures hardening as a guidance system. It is armed with 9 kg (20 lb) tandem shaped charge HEAT and is essentially AGM-114F with electronic Safe/Arming Device.
