Leonardo announced the signing of a contract with Italy’s Guardia di Finanza (Italian law enforcement agency) for the production of 22 new generation AW169M twin-engine helicopters.
The contract includes a comprehensive support and training package which could be further extended with optional services valued at an additional $112.5 million, the company said in a statement Monday.
The10-seat, 4.8 tonne aircraft will be used to perform a range of roles including patrol and reconnaissance, law enforcement, rescue and homeland security. The helicopter’s transmission design provides power to hydraulic, electrical and air conditioning systems with the rotors stopped (APU mode) optimising response time and availability.
