The Belgian Air Force F-16 fighter jets scrambled to intercept Russian Su-27 jets entering the airspace over Baltic Sea.

“Yesterday, F-16s of the Belgian Air Force currently deployed in the Baltic region intercepted Russian flanker fighter planes without a flight plan to preserve the integrity of the airspace,” the Belgian Defense Ministry posted on Twitter Thursday.

No information about the actual area of interception, or the number of aircraft on any of the sides was disclosed.

It's the third time this week with the Russian and Belgian planes involved in this area. On November 22, Russian Su-24 frontline bombers hovered over two Belgian Navy frigates, performing manoeuvres on the dangerously close distance, 112UA reported.

The Belgian vessels were involved in NATO maritime drills at the time. Besides, a Russian submarine took up not far from one of the Belgian frigates; the Russian vessel did not take any aggressive actions, but the crew took photos of the Belgian ships.
