GE To Supply T901 Engines to Replace US Army's Apache, Black Hawk Engines

General Electric has won a $517 million contract to supply T901 engines to replace the engines of Boeing AH-64 Apaches and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks.

The contract covers the engineering and manufacturing development phase of the Improved Turbine Engine Program (ITEP), the company said in a statement Friday.

According to the company, the T901 has a single-spool core architecture. The design aidied in reduction of the price and decrease in life-cycle costs.

Full modularity of engine provides fix-forward maintainability. Combat units can swap out modular parts of the engine in the field and travel with fewer full-sized spare engines, simplifying logistical footprints and supply lines. The US Army is also expecting the ITEP engine to meet Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft requirements for Future Vertical Lift (FVL).

Work will be completed by August 2024, US Department of Defense said in a statement Friday.
