India’s state-run Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) test fired the Pinaka guided rocket system at Pokhran desert in the north-western state of Rajasthan.

It is equipped with a guidance kit comprising of advanced navigation and control systems. The weapon system impacted intended targets with precision and achieved desired accuracies.

"The indigenously developed guided Pinaka, developed by DRDO, will boost the capability of the artillery to make precision hits," Defense Ministry said Monday.

The multi-barrel rocket system meant for the army is an area weapon system to supplement the existing artillery gun at ranges beyond 30 kilometres, having quick reaction time and high rate of fire, according to DRDO.
