Curtiss-Wright To Supply Cartridges For US Navy’s Trident Ballistic Missile Submarine Program

Curtiss-Wright Defense has won a $10 million contract for removable media cartridges (RMC) in support of the US Navy’s Trident Ballistic Missile Submarine program.

This contract includes foreign military sales to the United Kingdom, the US Department of Defense said in a statement Wednesday.

Each of the US Navy's Ohio class nuclear-powered submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SSBN) can be armed with up to 24 Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM). The Trident II D5 is the latest generation of the US Navy's submarine-launched fleet ballistic missile. It is a three-stage, solid-propellant, inertial-guided ballistic missile developed by Lockheed Martin. The missile can carry multiple independently targeted reentry bodies for a maximum range of over 7,360km.

The SSBNs, along with US Air Force strategic bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles, constitute the nuclear-deterrent triad of the US.

Work is expected to be completed by October 2024.
