Israel Eyes Arrow 3 Missile Interceptor Export After Successful Test

Israel is eyeing to expand its market beyond its borders following the completion of a 10-day trial of theArrow-3 interceptor missile system, designed to destroy ballistic missiles outside the earth’s atmosphere.

"There is in interest regarding possible exports of the Arrow-3 system overseas," said Moshe Patel, director of Israel Missile Defense Organization.

The Arrow-3 missiles are co-developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Boeing. The tests were a joint effort between the Israel Missile Defense Organization of the Directorate of Defense Research and Development and the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Soon after the conclusion of the tests, MDA released a statement according to which the Arrow-3 Interceptor “successfully demonstrated engagement capability against the exo-atmospheric target.” A Raytheon-made AN-TPY2 radar participated in the test.

“Such exports would be subject to relevant approvals by Israel's Ministry of Defense and the US’ MDA,” Patel added.

Israeli firm Tomer has built the rocket motors, Rafael has developed the target missile and Elbit Systems has manufactured the Arrow's command and control system called the "Golden Etrog."

The Arrow 3 system, a more advanced model of the Arrow and Arrow 2, was declared operational in January 2017.
