Russia is planning to conclude tests of modernised BMP-2M Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) equipped with Berezhok combat turret, in less than a month from now.
"The BMP-2M with the Berezhok combat module is a deep modernization of the BMP-2 in service. Currently, state tests of the newest vehicle are underway, they should be completed by December 1," a source from the defense industry was quoted as saying by TASS on Sunday.
The vehicle features a new module with a fire control system, improved crew awareness, new commander and gunner sights, automatic grenade launcher, and an anti-tank system.
According to the Russian MoD, the BMP-2M IFVs are equipped with an updated weapon system, including a 30-mm automatic cannon, a 7.62-mm machine gun, anti-tank guided missile launchers and an automatic grenade launcher. The upgrade includes integrating new R-168-25U-2 radio station for classified communication for increased protection against interception and decryption of radio data, and to resist interference.
"Two missile launchers of guided anti-tank missiles Kornet, two missiles each, were installed in the fighting compartment of the BMP-2M," the source added.
Far Eastern military command high school received a batch of upgraded BMP-2Ms, local media reported earlier, citing a statement from the Russian MoD.
