At its June 25, 2025 meeting, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag approved seven military procurement and development projects totaling more than €3 billion.

These investments, drawn from both the Bundeswehr’s Special Fund and the regular defense budget, support multiple areas including air, land, naval, and digital capabilities.

The German Air Force will receive new laser target illuminators for its Eurofighter fleet. The €358 million contract covers the delivery of enhanced targeting systems that improve detection—especially against moving targets—and bolster reconnaissance capabilities. The new system replaces an older model and will be delivered shortly.

A new framework agreement allows the Bundeswehr to acquire clip-on thermal imaging devices for image intensifier goggles. The initial order, valued at €49 million, will be made through the European defense agency OCCAR in cooperation with Belgium. These devices combine thermal and night vision imagery, improving visibility and survivability for infantry troops.

A modernization program for the U212A-class submarines will focus on navigation, sonar, and electronic systems. The €1 billion investment will primarily benefit the first batch of four submarines, with upgrades scheduled during regular shipyard maintenance to reduce operational downtime.

To strengthen chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense, the committee approved a framework agreement for mobile decontamination equipment. Funded by both the special and regular budgets, the project aims to improve rapid response to hazardous substance exposure during operations.

The German Navy's NH90 helicopter simulators will receive a €46.5 million upgrade. The goal is to ensure the simulators reflect the latest design updates of the NH90 platform, aligning training systems with operational equipment.

A €300 million framework agreement will ensure the continuous production and supply of 7.62mm ammunition for MG3 and MG5 machine guns. This measure supports training requirements and improves supply security for the Bundeswehr.

The committee approved a 13th amendment contract worth nearly €1.5 billion for continued development of Bundeswehr's non-military IT systems. The contract, in place through 2030, includes support for the deployment of the German brigade in Lithuania and upgrades in cloud computing. It is managed by the in-house IT provider BWI GmbH.
