Engine of Russia's Mi-38 Helicopter Gets New Upgrades

Russia’s Rostec has green-signalled the new upgrades of the United Engine Corporation (UEC)-Klimov manufactured TV7-117V turboshaft engine for the Mi-38 helicopter.

“UEC-Klimov has received an approval for the upgraded TV7-117V engine. The power unit intended for use in Mi-38 multi-purpose helicopters proves its efficiency against bird strikes, rain and hail conditions,” Rostec announced on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday.

In 2015, Russian Helicopters dropped plans to equip its Mi-38 helicopter with the Pratt & Whitney 127 TS engine in favor of the locally made Klimov engine.  The TV7-117V is derived from TV7-117SM turboprop engine of the Ilyushin Il-114 plane. Distinctive feature of TV7-11V engine is the addition of emergency ratings with a power of 3000-3750 h.p., which help increase the flight safety. The engine is fitted with a new FADEC control system, developed on the basis of BARK-6V automatic control unit, the manufacturer claims.
