The Pentagon has given Lockheed Martin a $601.3 million order to supply Trident II D5 missiles to the US Navy.
“Lockheed Martin is awarded a $601.3 million modification contract for the submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) Trident II D5 production and deployed systems support,” the Pentagon said in a statement Thursday.
The Trident II D5 is a three-stage, solid-propellant, inertial-guided ballistic missile. It can carry multiple independently targeted re-entry bodies for a maximum range of over 7,360km.
Work is expected to be complete by September 2024.
