US Navy Destroyer USS Delbert D. Black Completes Acceptance Trials

The US Navy’s USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119) Arleigh Burke-class destroyer has completed acceptance trials after spending two days at sea in the Gulf of Mexico.

“Huntington Ingalls Industries announced today that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division completed the third and final round of sea trials for Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer Delbert D. Black (DDG 119),” Huntington Ingalls, manufacturer of the warship, said in a statement Tuesday.

The US Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey will now review the ship's crew performing a series of demonstrations prior to its planned commissioning.

Prior to delivering the ship to the US Navy, criteria evaluated includes the quality of construction and compliance with Navy specifications and requirements.

The DDG 119 is being constructed with the Aegis Baseline 9 combat system, which incorporates Integrated Air and Missile Defense capabilities, such as increased computing power and radar upgrades, that improve detection and reaction against modern air warfare and Ballistic Missile Defense threats. The Aegis Combat System enables a group of ships and aircraft to link their radars to provide a composite picture of a battle space.

Ingalls has delivered 31 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers to the Navy. The shipyard currently has four DDGs under construction, including Delbert D. Black (DDG 119), Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121), Lenah H. Sutcliffe Higbee (DDG 123) and Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125), the Navy’s first Flight III destroyer.
