Boeing Insitu to Provide ScanEagle UAV Training to Afghan Forces

Boeing subsidiary, Insitu is awarded $7 million contract to support ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The contract procures field service representatives and instructors to provide technical services, training, and program management needed to sustain and support ScanEagle operations, a US DoD release said Tuesday.

Work is expected to be complete by March 2021. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Lakehurst, New Jersey, is the contracting activity.

ScanEagle operations in Afghanistan:

The US Navy unmanned vehicle experts have  established an in-theater training facility in Afghanistan to help Afghan military forces lean to use Insitu ScanEagle small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) under a $70.9 million contract from 2015.

The contract is for eight ScanEagle UAVs consisting of 65 ScanEagle Air Vehicles, spares, support equipment, field service support, in theater ScanEagle training facility, and training.

The ScanEagle UAV is 5.1 feet long with a 5.6-foot wingspan. It weighs as much as 48.5 pounds and can carry a 7.5-pound sensor payload. The UAV can fly for more than 24 hours at altitudes as high as 19.500 feet, and at speeds to 80 knots.
